To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Christian Doppler’s birthday (1803— Salzburg, Austria) and the 150th anniversary of his death (1853—Venice, Italy), this book collects the invited contributions which were given as plenary lectures at the symposia held in Doppler’s town of birth, in Salzburg, and at the main stations of his scientific working, in Prague, in Vienna and in Venice.

Univ. Prof. Dr Anton Zeilinger, Univ. Prof. Dr Theodor Hänsch—2005 Nobel laureate in physics, and Univ. Prof. Dr Rudolf Mössbauer—1961 Nobel laureate in physics, expressed their esteem for Christian Doppler at the special ceremonies. Their forewords and the contributions by renowned international scientists are collected in this volume giving a general review of Doppler’s life and works and illuminating the scientific issues of the modern, up-to-date applications of the Doppler Principle in science, technology and medicine.
